KATHMANDU, Feb 25: Chairpersons of the Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and Madhav Kumar Nepal held a meeting with the leaders of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) to explore the possibility of a power-sharing deal as the Oli-led government is under immense pressure to step down following the Supreme Court's decision to reinstate the House of Representatives (HoR).

The meeting which took place at Parisdanda, party headquarters of the Dahal-Nepal faction, from 9:30AM to 10:30AM on Thursday morning, revolved around the possibility of a power sharing deal in the evolving political situation after the apex court overturned the government's decision to dissolve the HoR, Rajendra Mahato, a key leader of the JSP, said.

During the meeting, Dahal urged the JSP leaders to form an alliance to install a new coalition government. However, the JSP leaders suggested to Dahal to bring on board the main opposition Nepali Congress first to form the alliance and set up a new government.

Chairperson Dahal also told the JSP leaders that they will file a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Oli once the session of the House of Representatives begins as per the apex court's verdict.

The JSP leaders told Dahal that they can't trust Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister Oli and the Dahal-Nepal led faction of the NCP, too, as they have been betrayed by all the major political parties several times on the issue of the constitution amendment.

JSP leaders Mahantha Thakur, Rajendra Shrestha and Mahato were present on behalf of their party in the meeting with Dahal and Nepal.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, leaders of the Dahal-Nepal faction held a meeting with Nepali Congress President Deuba in a bid to forge an alliance to form the new government. However, Deuba remained non-committal saying that he should discuss the matter first within his own party.

At a public event on Wednesday, Deuba suggested to Prime Minister Oli to either face a no-confidence motion in parliament or step down from the post immediately to pave the way for the formation of a new government.
