KATHMANDU, March 4: Leaders of the Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) visited the Election Commission (EC) office on Thursday to reiterate that their faction is the legitimate NCP since they command a majority in the party.
Sheeram Dhakal, secretary of the central party office of the Dahal-Nepal faction, said that standing committee member Lilamani Pokharel and central committee member Rajendra Pandey were among the party leaders who reached the EC office today.
During their meeting with EC officials, the Dahal-Nepal faction leaders urged them to settle the ongoing row over the legitimacy of the either faction of the NCP. They urged the EC officials to make a decision on granting official recognition to their faction of the NCP at the earliest possible.

On Wednesday, a central committee meeting of the Dahal-Nepal faction held in the capital objected to the EC for its indecision on granting official recognition to their faction of the party. The same meeting also decided to draw the attention of the poll body toward the faction's claim of being the authentic and genuine NCP.
In their meeting, the Dahal-Nepal faction leaders demanded that they be granted the official recognition as the legitimate NCP and the election symbol ‘sun’, claiming that the faction commands a majority in the party.
They demanded that the EC should recognize them as the legitimate NCP since they command the support of 441 central committee members.
The meeting comes at a time when the rival factions of the NCP are struggling hard to be recognized as the official party legally.
Earlier, both rival factions of the NCP sent separate letters to the commission and claimed that they should be granted the official recognition. However, the EC refused to recognize any of the two factions of the ruling NCP as the official party concluding that both the factions led by KP Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal are one party, at least on the legal ground.
