The government has not taken any decision to reopen the cinema halls which have been closed for the past nine months. However, the cinema halls have come into operation after the Nepal Motion Picture Association (NMPA), decided to make the halls operational from today.

According to Deputy General Secretary of NMPA, Gopal Kaji Kayastha, cinema halls have reopened today with few shows of movies such as Aama, Senti Virus and Sanglo.

Nevertheless, as soon as the halls came into operation, the District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu invited the filmmakers for a discussion on the basis of a letter with instructions to discuss the demands of NMPA, sent by the Prime Minister's Office.

After discussions with the filmmakers, the DAO, Kathmandu, has decided to send a letter to open the cinema halls to today's cabinet meeting. Kayastha told Republica that the NMPA’s recommendation to reopen cinema halls will be presented as an agenda at the meeting of the Council of Ministers that will take place later today.

The cinema hall operators hope that the cabinet will decide in favor of opening the halls soon. "However, if the cabinet decides otherwise, our agitation will continue," Kayastha said.

Kayastha said that they have not backtracked on their decision to open the halls and that the halls will be reopened from today.
