Prints, patterns and logo

Everything came out printed, patterned, or patched for this season. From jackets, sweaters, and tees to caps, trousers, and joggers. Brands like Versace and Marni actually incorporated multiple patterns and prints into the same look. One of the most iconic looks seen during F/W 2018-19 shows was when a model walked out wearing an oversized patched and striped tee with multicolored billowy trousers, orange leather bag, red suede boots with a bejeweled colorful necklace at the Marni show. Dries Van Noten also showcased some interesting pattern mixes by incorporating floral, checkered and striped patterns into the same look. The most popular trend among the F/W designers seemed to be checks and plaid patterns. It was used by a lot of big houses including Alexander McQueen, Fendi, and Astrid Andersen. Pinstriped suits are also huge this season. Logo sweaters, tee-shirts, caps, and bottoms are also seen at multiple shows like Burberry, Fendi and Louis Vuitton.

Oversized shoulders

One of the prominent trends for the F/W 2018 season is a big throwback to a popular 80’s trend among businessmen – the extra large shoulders on jackets, coats, and blazers. And because suits are really big this season, almost every single collection for the F/W 2018-19 collection included a few broad shouldered pieces. Although it might be harder for you to move your arms around too much after wearing these outwear with humongous shoulder pads, it will allow you to wear multiple layers of sweaters and warmers underneath without making you feel like the buttons on your jacket might pop off any second. Louis Vuitton, Versace, and Ming Lai Lee all interpreted this silhouette in their own styles with Louis Vuitton opting to stick to neutral colors, Versace incorporating colorful checkered patterns into them, and Ming Lai Lee sticking to a dark color scheme.

Cartoons and caps

Just like patterns and logos, cartoon designs were also trending during the F/W 2018-19 shows. They were seen especially on the front of chunky and heavy sweaters, jumpers and pullovers. This trend is very popular among the teens and millennials this season and you can see every other Instagram star from all around the world posing in clothes with at least one prominent cartoon design on them. Raf Simons actually collaborated with Looney Tunes for his F/W 2018-19 collection for Calvin Klein while Jonathan Anderson turned heads during the London Fashion Week when he exhibited his collection featuring sensual homosexual tattoos by the artist Dom Orejudos.

Another common factor on most models walking the F/W 2018-19 runways were hats. This season we see hats in all shapes, colors, and styles taking over the fashion scene. Everything from beanies and chunky winter caps to baseball caps and glitzy rapper-esq snap backs were featured on various shows this season. One of the most popular items under the cap/hat category was a nylon bucket hat by Prada in plain black.

Other Prominent Trends

Leather

Leather was a popular fabric for the F/W 2018-19 collection. It showed up in all kinds of clothing items like shirts, trousers, caps, boots, jackets, and duster coats and in all shades of the rainbow.

Monochrome, brown, and navy black

A lot of designers like Paul Smith and Kenzo based their full collections on monochromatic looks while Kim Jones primarily used neutral tones like brown and suede for his last collection for Louis Vuitton. A color somewhere between the spectrum of navy blue and black is also popping up this season as we saw Marni and Moschino dressing their models in this shade.

Cowboy culture

A throng of designers at labels like Dsquared2, Dries Van Noten, and Calvin Klein seemed to be inspired by cowboy attires and featured pieces that incorporated detailed designs on them. 205W39NYC’s black jacket cum shirt with golden tassels hanging from a golden embroidery design across the torso was all anyone could talk about at the New York Fashion Week.
