HUMLA, Dec 3: Devaki Timilsina, the candidate from the CPN (Maoist Center), has been elected as the Vice Chairperson of Sarkegad Rural Municipality in Humla.
Timilsina won by a thin margin of 43 votes, defeating Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Sabita Buda. Out of 6,810 registered voters in Sarkegad, 4,524 votes were cast in the by-election held on Sunday.

Timilsina secured victory with 1,637 votes. Her nearest contender, NC candidate Buda, received 1,594 votes. While Jana Shahi of the CPN-UML garnered 1,132 votes, Sangeeta Shahi of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) received 51 votes, and Bacha Buda of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) obtained 25 votes. Independent candidate Naresh Shahi secured 9 votes.
Of the total votes cast, 78 were declared invalid. In 2079 BS, the NC and Maoist Center contested the election forging an electoral alliance. The NC then secured the Chairperson's position and the Maoist Center won the Vice Chairperson's post. The by-election was held to fill the vacant position on Sunday following the death of Vice Chairperson Chandrasingh Karki in a vehicle accident on August 20.
