DHANGADHI, Jan 3: Three and a half years after the rape and subsequent murder of Nirmala Pant, a teenaged girl from Kanchanpur, the mystery of the incident has not been revealed yet. Police teams from the Central Bureau of Investigation, Provincial Police Office and District Police Office have been conducting a series of investigations. As police have recently taken control of an Indian citizen for interrogation to resolve the mystery behind the murder, the case of Nirmala has attracted everyone’s interest again.

Superintendent of Police Uma Prasad Chaturvedi at the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, said that the killer of Nirmala Pant has not been identified yet. He further added that the killer could not be identified due to lack of sufficient evidence. He said that a joint team of the Central Investigation Bureau, Provincial Police Office and District Police Office have been conducting the investigation.

A source said that the police have arrested an Indian national on suspicion of his involvement in the case a few years ago. According to the source, the police have arrested the son of an Indian national who was cultivating vegetables in the area where Nirmala's body was found. SP Chaturvedi did not want to reveal the details. The DNA sample of the arrested has been sent for test to determine if he was involved in the case.
