New zipline coming up in Nuwakot

KATHMANDU, July 25: Durbar Adventure Zipline Pvt Ltd is building a zipline in the historic Nuwakot Durbar area.


Durga Dutta Dhakal, the information officer for the Department of Tourism, said that the proposal of Durbar Adventure Zipline Pvt Ltd has already been approved by the department. “Our team has already conducted site visit and given go-ahead to the company to start construction work. The team also interacted with the locals and found them supportive to the project, Dhakal added. “A zipline near Kathmandu Valley will be a new attraction for tourists visiting the Kathmandu Valley.” 


Sanib Rai, one of the promoters of Durbar Adventure Zipline Pvt Ltd, said young Nepalese as well as foreign tourist will be their major clientele. “As the government is building Kathmandu-Rasuwagadhi Highway which will connect the country to Tibet, we hope to get good number of Chinese tourists too,” he added.

According to the promoters, the project has delighted people living the palace area. “Locals are also investing in the project. They have been very supportive to us as they know the project will ultimately benefit the locals as well,” he said.


Construction work of the project began two months ago.


“We hope to bring the zipline into operation within a year,” added Rai.

The zipline will be 1.2 kilometers long with a vertical drop of 138 meters and maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour, according to Rai.


The promoters are also building a resort, swimming pool, restaurants and other infrastructures in the proposed site. “The zipline promises enchanting view of the Durbar area, green hills and beautiful settlements,” Rai added. “The launch platform will be at Mahamandal Danda and the flyer will land at Dharmapani after a ride of about two minutes.”


Rai added that the company will build different facilities at the zipline spot to attract youths and family groups from Kathmandu Valley as well as foreign tourists.
