KATHMANDU, Sept 5: A mother and son have been killed in Sorung Chhabise, Katari Municipality-10, Udayapur district. Nirmala Thapa, 40, and her 6-year-old son Aarus Thapa, who were running a grocery shop near the ward office, were found dead in their own shop this morning.

According to Ward President Kshetra Bahadur Khadka, customers who came to the shop in the morning saw the bodies of the mother and son. Khadka said, “The mother's body was found lying face down on the floor, while the son's body was discovered on the bed. It has been reported that the son died after being struck by a weapon.”
Umesh Mahato, police inspector of the Area Police Office, Katari, said that as soon as receiving information about the incident in the morning, police were immediately sent to the incident site. Inspector Mahato said, “Police are about to reach the scene. We will start the investigation as soon as we reach.”
Khadka said that Ashok Thapa, the husband of the deceased Nirmala Thapa, went to India with his younger wife two years ago. He said, “The main house is 300 meters away from the shop and they had stayed in the shop last night when the incident occurred.”
Gita Kumari Giri, executive member of Katari Municipality, who reached the spot, said that police reached the scene from the Batase police station and the investigation process is underway. Local Deepak Raut said that the deceased, Nirmala, had a phone conversation with her brother-in-law until 8 PM on Wednesday.
Raut said, “The deceased‘s brother in-laws were supposed to arrive in the morning. There was a plan to slaughter a goat at home in the morning, but the murder happened in the night.” locals reported the police after learning about the incident. The villagers, who were preparing to celebrate Teej, are now in mourning following the murder.
