Madhesh province government to celebrate Swabhiman Diwas on January 17

JANAKPURDHAM, Jan 12: The Madhesh Province government has decided to celebrate Swabhiman Diwas from now on January 17. The provincial government is going to celebrate Swabhiman Diwas in commemoration of the naming of Province No 2 as Madhesh Province and declaration of Janakpurdham as the capital of the province.

The provincial government is going to celebrate Swabhiman Diwas in commemoration of the naming of Province No 2 as Madhesh Province and declaration of Janakpurdham as the capital of the province.

Minister for Home Affairs, Communications and Law of Madesh province Mohammad Samim, who is also the spokesperson for the Madhesh government, informed Republica that Swabhiman Day is going to be celebrated to commemorate the designation of the provincial capital and the naming of the province by the meeting of the provincial assembly on January 17, 2022. According to him, although Swabhiman Day was celebrated on January 17 in previous years, public holiday was not given.


During the decision-making process, there were 107 members in the provincial assembly, with 104 members present at the time of naming the capital. Of the 104, as many as 99 parliamentarians participated in the vote, while five were absent. The voting resulted in 78 MPs supporting Janakpurdham as the capital of the province, while 80 MPs favored naming Province 2 as Madhesh Province.
