KHOTANG, Oct 31: Altogether 12,186 families in Khotang have subscribed to the health insurance scheme initiated by the government in January, 2018. The insurance scheme covers 26,047 individuals in the district.
Ten local provinces of the district are currently offering the health insurance scheme.
Under this scheme, a family of five members have to pay Rs 2500 annually could have their health expenses up to Rs 50,000 covered. If there are more than five members in the family, the subscribers have to pay Rs 450 for each additional member and the family will get Rs 10,000 extra for additional member, according to the health insurance board.

Social health security development committee of the government informed that the accounts of the subscribers will be activated in 2-3 months of the subscription.
Santosh Dahal, coordinator of health insurance board of Khotang informed that more women are interested in the health insurance service provided by the government. The number of women subscribing to the health insurance has exceeded the number of men who subscribed to health insurance in the region.
“Among the insured, 13,286 of them are females and 12, 777 are males,” said Dahal.
The health insurance board informed that Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadi Municipality has the highest number of health insurance subscribers -- a total of 7626 people -- in the district. Similarly, Sakela Rural Municipality has the least number of health insurance subscribers -- only 879 people.
The target of the government is to reach at least 50 percent of the population across the country.
