JUMLA, June 3: Bishnu Budha, vice-chairperson of Tila Rural Municipality, has started a door to door campaign to boost the morale of COVID-19 patients in the rural municipality. She has been visiting the patients and inquiring about their situation as well as sharing her empathy with the family of the patients.

The door-to-door campaign was previously initiated during the first wave of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection and has been given continuity again to maintain strict measures in order to control the spread of the second wave of COVID-19 in the rural municipality.

The vice-chairperson along with a team of health workers has been providing door-to-door counseling as well as medications to the patients. According to Budha, the team has provided eggs, medicines and medical counseling to the patients. “The way of seeing a COVID-19 patient is very different in villages. It is an infection. Death is not certain after getting infected but negligence of health while being infected can lead to such a possibility,” she said. “Awareness among the patients and their families is a must. We are conducting our campaign to spread awareness about the infection,” she added.

Vice-chairperson Budha along with Health Coordinator Ganesh Bahadur Shahi and Auxiliary Health Worker Uttam Devkota visits the patients in their houses. “COVID-19 is a collective problem and should be solved collectively. Safety health standards must be followed,” Buddha said.

If reports of a critical situation arise, arrangements for transportation and treatment of patients have been provided by the local government.

She also urged all the infected patients staying isolated in their homes to be highly alert. “As home isolation is not ideal for patients, we request them to be alert,” Budha said.

The team of health workers has reached the homes of four patients in ward 4, one in ward 3 and two in ward 7 for health counseling. Dutta Giri, an infected person staying in home isolation at Tila Rural Municipality expressed his happiness toward the team for providing door-to-door counseling.

According to Ganesh Bahadur Shahi, the door-to-door campaign has become very effective in boosting the morale of the infected patients. The rural municipality has a 25-bed isolation ward and a five-bed COVID hospital with doctors.

We hope to avoid any major disaster from COVID-19, he said. “For this, we have mobilized health workers and the health department of the rural municipality. Also, three health desks have been set up in the rural municipality,
