KATHMANDU, Oct 11: On Wednesday, women's rights activists held a protest at Maitighar in Kathmandu, demanding the reversal of the presidential pardon to and re-imprisonment of Yograj Dhakal aka Regal. They also held a peaceful vigil and protest rally.
Bharti Manandhar, the wife of Chetan Manandhar who was brutally murdered by Regal in 2015, is on a hunger strike at Maitighar Mandala, demanding justice for her husband.
Regal, who was sentenced to life imprisonment on the charge of murder, was released by the government on the occasion of Constitution Day through a presidential pardon.

Regal was found guilty of murdering Chetan Manandhar of Nepalganj on July 13, 2015. In the case against Regal, the Supreme Court has already issued a show cause order in the name of the government and the President's Office.
Women's rights activist Anju KC Shrestha, who initiated the movement, argued that this incident amounted to a violation of the constitution. She claimed that it was unconstitutional for the government to grant clemency to someone who had committed a broad daylight murder.
Likewise, fellow activist Kalpana Basnet stated that Bharti deserved justice, and violence against women should not be tolerated. She emphasized that the presidential pardon should be reversed, accusing the government of attacking a woman.
The protesters displayed placards with slogans such as "Obey the Rule of Law," "Protect Our Lives," "Government, Stop Respecting Criminals," "Jail the Heinous Criminal Regal," and more.
