You’re alone at home and there’s not much to do. You are bored. That’s never a good feeling. But really, there are so many things you can do to easily eliminate boredom. We have compiled a list of activities you can indulge in to entertain yourself when boredom creeps in.
Popsicles and ice cream
Seeing as how mercilessly hot the days are, making some popsicles and homemade ice cream is doing yourself a huge favor. Throw in some crushed berries, a little honey and milk in popsicle containers and put them in the freezer. A life hack: crush some oreos and throw them into the mix. Make your ice cream from a store-bought mix or make it yourself.
Paint the newspaper
You will always have black and white newspapers lying around your house. Bring out your crayons, watercolors, pencil colors, or just your different colored dot pens and color over the mono colored photographs on the newspaper. They could do a lot better with some color in them.
Try a new recipe
When you’re bored, you should eat. That will make you happy. For a change though, how about trying a new recipe from a completely different cuisine entirely? Don’t just make the regular fried rice, or sausages and eggs. Try something new. Try making some ramen, and no, we aren’t talking about the instant kind. Make the broth and noodles from scratch. Look up a well-detailed recipe or watch a tutorial video and get to work.
Plant a mini herb garden
We understand that gardening might come across as a daunting task but it needn’t be so. Imagine not having to buy coriander and mint leaves in bulks and seeing them wither before you have had a chance to use even half of it. Bring out a few empty jars, fill them to the brim with soil and plant your herbs. Place them around your kitchen counter to make everyday herb picking easy.
Know your inner self
DIY face mask
Self-care is an investment so you’re not just killing time but also giving yourself some much needed pampering. Try a DIY face-mask – you have the time to make it after all. DIY masks are usually made with organic ingredients so they’re good for your skin and save you from any unwelcome chemical reactions. Play Disney songs while you’re at it because why not? Aladdin’s Speechless is a great one.
Visit fun websites
Ever spent some time chatting with Clever Bot on Clever Bot? You’re missing out. Clever Bot is run by artificial intelligence and they’re the nice kind of AI. They would never consider world domination. Go to XKCD’s page, they have some really fun comics. Try Slither.io – it’s an advanced version of our favorite snake game. It’s pretty difficult actually, but it’s great fun.
Stage a photo shoot
By this we don’t mean a selfie session. Look around you and identify one object or a space that you find pretty. It can be a pot of flower or a patterned cushion. Your phone comes with a number of default filters so try capturing the space/object with them. Drag your siblings or your pet if you must. Use photo-editing apps such as Prisma or Snapseed to touch up on your shots.
Clean up in bits
You’re making your bed, organizing your closet and drawers fairly regularly but you may have missed the little things you use everyday. Like your phone case, it probably needs cleaning. Clean your makeup brushes, edges of the sink, your spectacle frames and other things you frequently use.
Make a pet Instagram account
Open an Instagram account for your pet dog or even for your beautiful goldfish. This account need not be for anyone else. It’s just for you so do whatever you like with your posts. Post your pictures with weird captions and edits. People have Instagram accounts for their pet potatoes so what are you waiting for?
Choreograph a dance
Before you dismiss this idea, pause and reconsider. What is dancing anyway? It entails moving your body to a beat. Open your YouTube app and see what’s trending. There will always be a music video trending, click on the first video you see and dance away. Make a fixed choreography and memorize it. Keep your moves simple to make sure you remember it. Now repeat the dance moves till you have had a good workout.
Podcast and walking
Dress up in your most comfortable clothing and download a few episodes of your favorite podcast. Let’s Talk About Myths Baby, Noble Blood and Planet Money are a few great podcasts that can keep you entertained for hours on end. Now wear your walking shoes and take a long walk. Walk slowly and languorously like you have all the time in the world, because you do.
Nail polish to the rescue
Did you know that painting clear nail paint over your gold- silver-plated jewelry keeps them from wearing off soon? Yes, they do. Also look for some intricate nail art on the internet and keep yourself busy recreating the designs. While you’re at it, bring out your old sneakers and old denim clothing – jeans or jackets – and paint some patterns onto them.
