US assistant minister pays courtesy calls on Oli and Dahal as endorsement of MCC Agreement remains uncertain

KATHMANDU, Nov 19: Assistant Foreign Minister Donald Lu has paid courtesy calls to former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli.

KATHMANDU, Nov 19: Assistant Foreign Minister Donald Lu has paid courtesy calls to former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli. 


According to CPN-UML’s Head of Foreign Affairs Department, Dr Rajan Bhattarai, Minister Lu said that the United States of America is committed to further expanding its assistance to Nepal in various areas including the health, education, and employment sector in Nepal.

Minister Lu also mentioned that the US is interested in helping Nepal in new sectors as well, Dr Bhattarai said. When asked about the concerns related to the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to Chairman Oil by Minister Lu, he replied that he is not in a position to talk about it as he is not in the government. Oli said that he will announce his decision after the ruling parties make a decision on this. 


Minister LU also paid courtesy to CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. 


Talking to media persons after his meeting with Minister Lu, Dahal said that he will let Assistant Foreign Minister Lu know about his decision after holding a meeting with the other political parties. He also stated that the MCC is not as per the agreement reached by Nepal in the past.
