Strike obstructs normal life across the country, IEDs found in several places (with photos)

KATHMANDU, May 27: Normal life has been affected in various parts of the country due to strike called by the Chand-led armed outfit since Sunday morning.


Security forces including Nepal Army have defused improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in various districts including Bhaktapur, Dhading, Morang, Makawanpur, Rautahat, Arghakhanchi and Kapilvastu, police authorities said.


The one-day strike comes a day after the three separate explosions ocurred in the capital on Sunday that killed four cadres of the outlawed Chand-led group leaving eight others injured.


Two cadres of Chand-led group got killed in a private house at Ghattekulo when they were preparing the improvised explosive device to plant it somewhere.


In another case, two cadres lost their lives and five others injured when bomb went off inside a barber shop at Sukhedhara.

Likewise, two others were injured when the cadres of Biplab-led group detonated bomb at Chandragiri municipality in Kathmandu.


Nepal Police has confirmed that all those involved in the blasts were cadres of the Chand-led group.


Bishwaraj Pokharel, the spokesperson of the Nepal Police, told Republica Online that security has been stepped up in the capital following the deadly blasts.


Public transportation has been badly affected in the Kathmandu Valley while few private vehicles are plying the roads.


Major markets, colleges and schools, private institutions and corporate offices have remained closed due the strike.  


A team of Nepal Police defused an improvised explosive device at Land Reform Office in Bhaktapur at 3:30 am today.


Nepal Army personnel defused a pressure cooker bomb found at Buddha Chowk in Hetauda.


A pressure cooker bomb was defused at Chandranigahapur in Rautahat.


Nepal Army personnel also defused improvised explosive devices found at a bridge at Mahadevbesi in Dhading earlier today.


Suspected objects were found in Dhading, Baitadi, Arghakhanchi, Kapilbastu, Tanahu and Morang.


 Meanwhile, a group of cadres of Chand-led outfit torched a lorry near Arun River in Nawalpur on Monday morning. The lorry driver was injured in the incident, according to police.


Likewise, a truck was torched by an unidentified group at Chaukitol along the Tribhuvan Rajpath in Hetauda.
