Special course for volleyball coaches starts

KATHMANDU, Aug 7: A special training course for volleyball coaches, which got the status of the country’s national game recently, has started from Monday. 


The president of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) Jeevan Ram Shrestha and the president of Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) Manoranjan Sharma jointly inaugurated the course on Monday. International Volleyball Federation (IVF) is assisting to run the course.

According to the National Sports Council (NSC), the five-day course is being held for the first time in Nepal. 


NOC president Shrestha stressed on the need for a wider support for the development volleyball. 


“The development of volleyball is not a matter of concern for the association alone. As it is our national game, it should be a matter of pride for the entire country,” Shrestha said. “It is everybody’s responsibility to develop the national game of the country.”


The association’s general secretary, Jitendra Bahadur Chand, stated that the course will help produce good coaches in Nepal. 


The course will feature 16 trainee coaches from Nepal, two from India and one from Syria. They will be trained by IVF’s course director Las de D Jong and coach Damir Kolo.
