An NC candidate should become president: Dr Mahat

KATHMANDU, Feb 10: Spokesperson for the Nepali Congress, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that the next president of the country should be a candidate proposed by the Nepali Congress (NC). At a press conference organized by Nepal Press Union, Chitwan, here today, Dr Mahat said that it is necessary for an NC candidate to become the president to protect the constitution.

KATHMANDU, Feb 10: Spokesperson for the Nepali Congress, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that the next president of the country should be a candidate proposed by the Nepali Congress (NC). At a press conference organized by Nepal Press Union, Chitwan, here today, Dr Mahat said that it is necessary for an NC candidate to become the president to protect the constitution.


He said, "We have called on all parties to support an NC candidate for the post of head of state. And the response has been positive.''

Dr Mahat said that the leadership of Nepali Congress is necessary for Nepal's economic, social transformation, good governance, development and prosperity of the country. He added, "We think that sooner or later other parties will also realize this." 


He clarified that the NC is not in a position to join the government now as its focus is on the presidential election. He said that the NC is a party which believes in the rule of law, has fought relentlessly for democracy and is most committed to good governance.


On a different note, Dr Mahat commented on the culmination and fulfillment of the current alliance ambitions. He said, “In the ruling alliance, there are those who say that they need a king and there are those who say they do not. What does this imply?”
