IGP Kunwar leaves for Austria to attend INTERPOL General Assembly

KATHMANDU, Nov 26: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar has left for Austria to participate in the 91st General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization, commonly known as INTERPOL. In the absence of IGP Kunwar, Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police Tek Prasad Rai is set to handle the daily administrative work of Nepal Police Headquarters.

KATHMANDU, Nov 26: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar has left for Austria to participate in the 91st General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization, commonly known as INTERPOL. In the absence of IGP Kunwar, Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police Tek Prasad Rai is set to handle the daily administrative work of Nepal Police Headquarters.


IGP Kunwar left for Austria on Sunday morning to participate in the General Assembly organized by INTRERPOL General Secretariat from November 28 to December 1 in Vienna, Austria, according to the Police Headquarters.


Along with IGP Kunwar, chief of the INTERPOL Branch of Nepal Police, Superintendent of Police Anupam Shamsher JBR and Senior Sub Inspector of Nepal Police Purushottam Nepali have also left for the General Assembly. During the celebration of the 100th anniversary of INTERPOL, Senior Sub Inspector of Police Purushottam, who successfully climbed Mount Everest and proudly hoisted the national flag of Nepal, the flag of INTERPOL and the flag of Nepal Police, is participating in the General Assembly at the special invitation of Nepali INTERPOL.

AIG Tek Prasad Rai and other senior police officers bid farewell to the Nepal Police team at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).


Nepal will also participate in the polls according to the provision that the important issues of INTERPOL will be decided by voting in the General Assembly in which the representatives of all 195 member states of INTERPOL will participate. Besides, a courtesy meeting and discussion is also scheduled between the delegation led by IGP Kunwar and INTERPOL President and Secretary General.


Likewise, there is also a program of discussions and bilateral meetings on various topics with representatives of INTERPOL’s Global Outreach Regional Support and representatives of friendly countries India, China and the UAE.


IGP Kunwar and SP Anupam Shamsher JBR will return home on December 6. Senior Sub Inspector Purushottam Nepali will return home on December 8.
