Apart from sweating, the underarm area rarely gives us any physical discomfort. However, it’s an area that’s prone to darkening and that’s something very aesthetically unpleasing. Here, we bring you some easy home remedies that can help tackle this issue.

Apple cider vinegar and baking soda

Apple cider vinegar contains mild acids that aid in lightening the underarm area and removing accumulated dead skin cells from the armpit. Furthermore, it also acts as a disinfectant and kills any microbes that might be present. Mix two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and two teaspoons of baking soda and apply it on your underarm areas. Baking soda is an exfoliator that removes dead skin cells and it also has bleaching properties. Use this remedy thrice a week as it is too strong to be applied regularly.

Additionally, aloe vera has antibacterial properties that soothe irritated skin, making it perfect for the sensitive underarm area. Cut open an aloe vera leaf and apply its gel onto the surface of your skin. After letting it sit for about 10-15 minutes, gently wash the gel off with water. To see improvements in the discolored skin, repeat this process every alternate day.

Olive oil and brown sugar

Olive oil is a popular option when people want to nourish and hydrate the skin. Additionally, the antioxidants in olive oil help remove dead skin cells in the underarm area. When mixed with brown sugar, that is an exfoliant, it also aids in removing dead skin cells. Take two tablespoons of olive oil and two to three tablespoons of brown sugar, and mix it well. Then, after cleaning the underarm area, apply this paste and scrub it on your skin for about a minute or two. After you’re done scrubbing, leave it on the skin for about five minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water.  Repeat twice a week till you get the desired results.

Turmeric powder and milk

While we all know turmeric powder is commonly used in facemasks to lighten and brighten up the skin, it can also be used on the underarm areas. When mixed with milk, which contains lactic acid, it further aids the whitening process. Mix one tablespoon of turmeric powder and milk each and then apply the paste to the underarms areas. Then, after leaving it on the skin for about 10 to 12 minutes, rinse it off. Repeat this twice a week to see improvements on the color of your skin.

Castor oil

Castor oil has properties that soak in all the impurities present on the skin and even cleans out all your pores. This excellent skin conditioner removes all the dead cells, dirt and excess oil present in the underarm area. Apply one to two tablespoons of castor oil on your underarm areas every day and rub it into the skin gently for about five minutes before rinsing it off to see immediate results. As castor oil is a gentle exfoliator, applying it every day will not harm your skin.
