As per the final result, CPN-UML has emerged as largest party with secureed victory on 80 seats to the House of Representatives and 168 seats on provincial assemblies. Similarly, the CPN (Maoist Centre) has won in 36 seats on Houseof Representatives and 73 seats on provincial assemblies.

FPTP vote count cocludes, UML emerges as largest party


The vote count has concluded for the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) for the House of Representatives and provincial Assembly elections on Wednesday. As per the final result, CPN-UML has emerged as largest party with secureed victory on 80 seats to the House of Representatives and 168 seats on provincial assemblies. Similarly, the CPN (Maoist Centre) has won in 36 seats on Houseof Representatives and 73 seats on provincial assemblies.


Unraveling Nepali Congress’s defeat


The party, which stamped its authority in the district by defeating CPN-UML of the left alliance in 2013’s Constituent Assembly elections, should have won this time as well. Yet, Ramesh Lekhak, NP Saud and Dewan Singh Bista of Nepali Congress were defeated by the candidates of Left Alliance from marginal (67) to maximum (8,000) vote difference.

Following the Comprehensive Peace Accord signed between the then Maoists and the Seven Party Alliance in 2007, the first Constituent Assembly election took place in 2008. With heightened expectations from Maoists, a new political force which was still a virgin in politics, people voted immensely across the country, including Kanchanpur. The CPN-Maoists won 229 seats in the first CA. Nepali Congress and CPN-UML became second and third largest force respectively in the country.


Elections are revolution of public mandate: KP Oli


CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has stated that the recent elections of a federal parliament and provincial assemblies are the revolutions of the public mandate. Stating that there were many revolutions and insurgency in the past for the establishment of people’s rights, leader Oli claimed that the recent elections have been proven as one of the forms of revolution of the public revolution.


Percentage of invalid votes is 5.18 across the country


 The percentage of invalid votes in the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system of the election to the member of House of Representatives is 5.18 on an average throughout the country. Speaking at a face-to-face programme on Wednesday in the capital, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav said that the number of invalid votes was more in the districts of the central Tarai-Madhes compared to the number of invalid votes in the districts of the Himali (mountainous) region.


SAFF Championship Football tourneys to take place in Bangladesh


 The SAFF Championship Football competition will be held next year in Bangladesh. It will take place in Dhaka from September 4 to 15, the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) said. The championship is organized by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF). The national teams of the countries in the South Asia region take part in the championship held every two years.
