KATHMANDU, Nov 9: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has formed a three-member committee to conduct the feasibility of airport construction in Dharan Sub-metropolitan City.
CAAN’s decision to form the study committee comes shortly after Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati directed it to form a ‘Dharan Airport Construction Study Committee’ to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of an airport in Dharan — a city which is just around 40 kilometer away from the Biratnagar Airport.

According to CAAN, the committee led by Manager (Engineer) Nal Bikram Thapa includes Manager Anil Basnet and Bimal Khanal as its members. The decision, however, has courted serious controversy on social media, with people questioning the rationale behind building a new airport in the area where there is already a fully functional airport.
