KATHMANDU, Oct 25: Nepal Taekwondo Association felicitated World Taekwondo Federation (WTF)'s President Chung Won Choue in the capital on Tuesday. Choue, who is currently in his visit to Nepal since last Friday, was felicitated during a program organized to exchange greetings for the upcoming Tihar and Chhath festivals.

Minister for Youth and Sports Daljit Sripali, Minister for Irrigation Dipak Giri and Nepal Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha jointly felicitated Choue with a letter of appreciation acknowledging the South Korean's contribution to the game. Choue has been leading World Taekwondo Federation since 2004.

This is the second visit of Choue to Nepal. He had arrived here after last year's earthquake and distributed relief materials to the earthquake-affected people.

Meanwhile, Choue also praised Nepali taekwondo talents. “I saw young children playing taekwondo so passionately. Nepal has good chance to do well in this game and win medal in the Asian Games in future,” said Choue.

“Taekwondo is a game which gives hope for young players to win medals in Olympic.  In the Rio Olympics we saw young players from poor African countries like Niger and Cote d'Ivore winning medals from this sport. So maybe one day Nepal also can win medal in the Olympics,” added Choue.

He also praised Nepal as a peaceful country and lauded Nepalis as peace-loving people. “Taekwondo needs peaceful mind so Nepal could make progress in the game,” he said.

Choue said that he is ready to help for the development of taekwondo in Nepal by continuing the support in the ongoing youth projects.

During the occasion, Minister Sripali thanked Choue for his visit to Nepal.

“World taekwondo has achieved success and recognition under his tenure at the global stage.  We all know that Choue and WTF has been helping for the development of Nepali taekwondo, we expect such help in the future as well,” he said.

Korean ambassador to Nepal Yong-Jin Choe, former Minister for Youth and Sports Puroshottam Poudel, Nepal Olympic Committee's former President Dhurba Bahadur Pradhan also attended the program.
