KATHMANDU, Sept 24: Thamel, a tourist hub in Kathmandu, is going to witness the cultural street festival to be held here for the first time from September 27.
Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Cultural Aviation is taking lead to organize the event in association with the Thamel Tourism Development Council marking the 39th World Tourism Day.
Organizing a press conference here today, Council’s President Samir Gurung informed that Festival aimed to promote Thamel, a center of the tourist industry in the country for more than four decades, as well as Nepal’s tourism.

President Gurung said, “The festival is believed to support the government’s Visit Nepal 2020 campaign which aims to attract more than 2 million tourists.”
The organizers are hopeful that various entertaining events such as cultural shows, cultural processions, dance party and food festivals among others to be organized in the Festival are expected to add an extra edge to the festival.
On the occasion, discounts up to 20 percent would be offered to the guests visiting local restaurants, bars, discos and dohori clubs that are operative at night in Thamel area.
The festival would kick off at 4 pm from Tridevi Marga in Thamel. Several cultural events would be held in major thoroughfares in Thamel until the wee hours, according to the organizers.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari along with VIPs residing and running a business in Thamel area would partake in the festival and would circle Thamel on foot.
A blood donation drive will also be held at noon during the festival at Hotel Marsyangdi, shared Hotel Marsyangdi’s Marketing Manager Krishna Gurung. RSS
