Technicians reach mustard fields to control insect infestation

KAILALI, Dec 15: After an outbreak of insects in the mustard fields, a joint team of technicians from the Agriculture Development Branch, Plant Protection Laboratory, Kanchanpur, Agribusiness Promotion Support and Training Center has studied and monitored mustard fields in Punarbas Municipality of Kanchanpur.

KAILALI, Dec 15: After an outbreak of insects in the mustard fields, a joint team of technicians from the Agriculture Development Branch, Plant Protection Laboratory, Kanchanpur, Agribusiness Promotion Support and Training Center has studied and monitored mustard fields in Punarbas Municipality of Kanchanpur.


The team including agricultural technicians had studied about the insect and its effect in the mustard field.

The team after studying the insects and their infliction on the field of a farmer in Punarbas Municipality, Kanchanpur, concluded that Nepali armyworm, mustard beetles and butterflies had attacked the crop. The team has directed the Punarbas Agriculture Development Branch to collect the mustard damage data from the farmers and send it to the Directorate of Agriculture Development, Dipayal, and Plant Protection Laboratory, Sundarpur, Kanchanpur within three days.


Technicians have recommended irrigating the fields in the beginning, to use pesticides containing Azadirachta indica and if the pest infestation still occurs they have recommended using chemical pesticides.  


Siddharaj Upadhyaya, a technician at the Plant Protection Laboratory, Kanchanpur, said, “Insects found in mustard fields have gradually started appearing in the wheat crop as well.” Stating that the insects shift to wheat crop after damaging mustard fields, he suggested to the farmers to take care of it as soon as possible.
