KATHMANDU, August 25: Three days after the Supreme Court (SC) recognized the vertical split in Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), the party establishment is preparing to knock the apex court’s door challenging the documents submitted by the Pashupati Shumsher Rana-led faction while seeking to register a new party with the Election Commission.

RPP leader Susheel Shrestha said that they are filing a writ petition at the apex court seeking a review of the SC ruling. He said that the signatures submitted by the splinter faction were forged and added that the Rana faction had included the name of a leader who was outside the country on a vacation. He said that they had included the name of RPP lawmaker Leela Shrestha without her consent.

“Many names lack signatures. We are surprised by the court’s order. The SC didn’t bother to verify the signatures,” said Shrestha.

Despite its initial decision to give recognition to the party after due verification of signatures, the EC on Thursday officially registered the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Democratic (RPP-D) without verifying the signatures. EC officials said they decided to register the party based on the SC verdict.

On Monday, a single bench of Justice Tej Bahadur KC ordered the Election Commission to register the Rana-led party based on the provided documents.
