Lamichhane, who is also a former home minister, was arrested on October 18 in the Pokhara-based Suryadarshan Cooperative fund embezzlement case.

Since the arrest of their chairman, RSP leaders and cadres have been protesting stating that the government has engaged in political vendetta. Today, when Lamichhane was presented to court for the third time for an extension of his judicial custody, RSP workers staged a demonstration outside.

Police fired four rounds of tear gas canisters to control the crowd as they attempted to enter the prohibited area.
