BAITADI, Nov 25: It may sound unusual a single teacher looking after a school with over 100 students. But it is the case in a primary school at Rauleshwor VDC in the district.
Why teachers are important
Although the school has two teachers – one head teacher and another recruited under the private source, the real problem arises in the absence of one of them as the responsibility of taking the entire classes falls on the remaining one.
The Rauleshwor Ghattepatthar Primary School situated at Rauleshwor-8 has over 100 students but only two teachers.
School principal Karna Bahadur Madai said the school is unable to hire additional teachers as it is hard hit by the budgetary constraint. "We are only two here to look after the school, but in the absence of one, there remains a single head to teach and carry out the school activities," he said. Besides, as a head teacher, Madai has to carry out the administrative works and oftentimes has to go to the district headquarters for official works. The school is in the 23rd year of its establishment.
The school lacks a source of income. It is finding very hard to cope with the financial crisis and pay even a teacher hired under the private source.
This has been the cause of worry among the guardians. Dharmasingh Madai feels that quality of school education is degrading in the absence of required teachers.
How can one teacher take the entire school classes and give time to over 100 students, he questioned. The school is situated at a remote area.
When contacted, District Education Officer Lalsingh Ter said the new education regulations are forthcoming and the quota for the school can't be increased right now but the quota adjustment can be done. RSS
