Nepali Peacekeeper dies in Lebanon from self-inflicted gunshot wound

KATHMANDU, Feb 3:  A Nepali peacekeeper in Lebanon has died.


The Nepali Army has said that a soldier deployed in Lebanon for United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for the United Nations peacekeeping operations has died.

Subash Thapa, a soldier in the old Gorakh Battalion (Peacekeeping Force) died on Thursday.


Thapa of Dolakha was found injured by a bullet from his own weapon while on duty in the bunker of Gorakh Battalion.


Nepal Army headquarters said that he died in the hospital during the treatment. Coordination is being made to bring his body to Nepal.


Fighting continues along the Lebanese border where the mission is stationed. The Nepal Army said that the work is being done to understand whether the incident happened due to mental stress or some other reason.
