MUGU, Dec 3: About a dozen people have died due to viral fever outbreak in Mugu district within a week. Children and elderly alike are suffering from cough, cold, pneumonia and viral fever in the district as the temperature continues to drop in the mountainous region.
Residents of Chayanath Rara Municipality say that many of them have fallen ill. Five people, including two children aged 1 and 5, have died in the municipality.
Likewise, seven people have died due to the viral outbreak in Khatyad Rural Municipality, according to Birkha Bahadur Thapa, a local. “The entire village is suffering from the outbreak,” he added.
Three die of viral fever in Mugu
Lack of communication channel has hampered attempts to retrieve the exact data of those who have died due to the outbreak.
Symptoms of viral fever include severe fever, headache, stomachache, dizziness, swollen throat and vomiting. Locals say that lack of timely treatment is one of the reasons behind the increasing number of deaths in the district.
Those vulnerable to the outbreak include children, elderly as well as people suffering from asthma and blood pressure.
The viral fever has spread excessively in Gamtha, Righa, Ratapani, Kotdada, Shreekot and the surrounding areas. With the drop in temperature, the number of people suffering from fever is increasing significantly.
Man Prasad Bhatta, ward chairperson of Soru Rural Municipality, said that the residents of Jimma village have been severely affected by viral fever. The District Health Office has deployed health workers to the areas that have been affected by the outbreak.
Dr Bipin Kafle of the District Health Office said that there has been a rise in the number of people visiting the hospital with viral fever, cough and cold.
