KAPILVASTU, JUNE 21- Sudip Poudel, the mayor of Kapilvastu, has decided to remove the divider and solar light poles from the Taulihawa-Gaudi road to the Bhawani Bhikshu road, stating that the number of accidents has increased in Kapilvastu.

A cyclist from Bhikshu Chowk died after being hit by a tipper at Gaudi chowk on Sunday. The accident took place because of the steep road. A team comprising Mayor Poudel, Superintendent of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, Chief District Officer Dharmendra Mishra and Chief of Road Infrastructure Office Shivapuri Bishnu Lama conducted onsite monitoring on Monday after locals became furious by the incident. Mayor Poudel instructed them to remove the divider and solar lights that are in the middle of the road.

On this occasion, Mayor Poudel said he has decided to remove the road dividers and solar light poles as the road was very narrow and it caused many accidents. At present, the road is very narrow due to the construction of canals and digging in some places.

Even though 15 meter sideways have been maintained on both sides of the road, it has become extremely difficult for passengers to walk due to the construction of a canal. The frequency of accidents has increased as buses and hand pull carts are kept on the narrow road, according to the local residents. Thus, Mishra directed the authorities concerned to remove carts and other items from the road area. "Any items left in the road should be removed promptly," he urged.

After the instruction from Mayor Poudel and Officer Mishra, the removal of dividers and solar light poles has begun. Mayor Poudel said they will start removing other physical structures from the road as well. The road division office had installed dividers 10 years ago and solar lights were installed by the municipality. Mayor Poudel and CDO Mishra also instructed the Road and Infrastructure Office and the contractor company to complete the construction work soon.
