How did you come up with the idea of creating a YouTube channel?

Prabhat: Back in 2012, after the completion of A-levels, everybody started doing internships, but I used to stay at home playing games. I was under immense pressure from my family to ‘do something’, but I wanted to take a year off. I always wanted to create YouTube videos. And, after my sister sent a phone from the US, I started making the videos.

What is Explore Gadgets all about?

The channel gives information about technology to the general public. People usually find technology difficult, but we try to explain it to them in a simplified manner. We do app reviews, game reviews and product reviews. We have a different series designed to help people to understand different technological products. Through the videos, people can also find out the price range of different products and get free advice and recommendations. For example, if an individual is a fitness freak, what kind of earphone would be suitable for that person while going to the gym? We try to recommend different products for different situations according to individual need.

Tech products are quite expensive. How do you manage to get them for reviews?

We have been in this industry for four years, and we are verified. Most of the products are sent to us by the manufacturers and we just have pay for the shipping. But this doesn’t prevent us from giving our unbiased feedback. We mention all the positive aspects, but we also don’t hesitate to give our true opinion.

What is the objective of your channel?

The objective of our channel is to entertain people, and provide them with correct information to help them make buying decisions. We also make informational videos about upcoming technology and technological projects. People can make themselves aware of new technological trends and get updated with new technology.

People from which age groups do you think are more interested in technology?

According to our viewer analytics, people aged between 18 and 24 years are more interested in technology. People from the US and India watch our videos more often.

What are the challenges one has face while running a YouTube channel from Nepal?

Nepali people still have a hard time understanding YouTube. Most people think you earn money just by uploading a video, which is not the case. Anyone can upload a video, but hard work is required to create quality content. Sometime internet doesn’t work properly and sometime there is no electricity. There are so many technical disturbances in Nepal. Whenever there is a product launch abroad, YouTubers are invited. Although they don’t get the product, they get a chance to review it. But in Nepal, products arrive quite late. So even if you want to create a video on it, YouTubers abroad have already reviewed it. If the videos are not uploaded in time, they become dated.
