KATHMANDU, Feb 2: Lawmakers have expressed concern over the repeated cases of self-immolation taking place in various parts of the country.

Taking time in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa demanded that the government give compensation to the small farmers whose chickens were destroyed to control the bird flu. Speaking at zero time in the House of Representatives, General Secretary Thapa urged the government to understand the problem of farmers who are in distress for not being able to pay their bank loans.

Thapa said that the compensation to be paid by the government to the farmers whose chickens were destroyed for bird flu control is 580 million rupees. He requested the government not to delay the payment of this amount.

Similarly, independent lawmaker Dr. Amaresh Kumar Singh has demanded the formation of a high-level judicial inquiry committee to investigate the self-immolation and suicide cases.

Lawmaker belonging to Janata Samajbadi Party Raj Kishore Yadav mentioned that it is sad that no voice was raised in the parliament about the young businessman Prem Prasad Acharya, who died in self-immolation. He said, “Today we are debating in front of the parliament. A young man committed self-immolation because he could not succeed in this country. Today, I was thinking that there will be a special proposal in this House that why Prem Acharya was forced to commit self-immolation? There may be a discussion about it, but today this Parliament has been established as a dead body.”

Nepali Congress MP Mohan Basnet has announced that he will give a job to the wife of Prem Acharya. He said that after returning from his work, he will issue an appointment letter for employment.
