KATHMANDU, April 17: British newspaper The Guardian has suggested the UK travelers visit Nepal as the country is cheaper than other traditional British destinations.
“Nepal is suitable for the UK travelers as the fall of Pound Sterling after the Brexit might make other destinations like - the United States, Australia, France and Spain pricier,” the newspaper said, suggesting its readers 10 different countries in which Nepal tops the list for its mountains, rich culture, wildlife, temples, and ancient towns.
According to recent research by the insurer Columbus Direct, 41 percent of British will be changing their holiday plans this year as a direct result of the fall in sterling, with a hefty 16 percent -- 8 million people -- planning a staycation.
“The country has had a tricky few years that have featured Maoist insurgencies, royal massacres and a devastating earthquake, but Nepal has come roaring back. Travelers are reporting a sense of optimism and vibrancy that rubs off on visitors. This is a country with a huge amount to offer: its mountain ranges, of course, but also a wealth of wildlife, temples, ancient towns and colorful culture,” the newspaper writes.
Quoting Catherine Shearer of specialist cycle holiday experts, H+I Adventures, the Guardian writes: “Pound for pound, Nepal is better value than Europe”.
The other countries to make it to the list are South Africa, Albania, Bulgaria, Colombia, Iran, Namibia, Malaysia, Kenya and Serbia.
The British newspaper also suggests the UK travelers to go to France and Italy via roadway, go to camping and to find cheaper way of travelling.
Earlier in March, the National Geographic travel magazine had listed Pokhara as the destination not to be missed in the spring of 2017.
