KATHMANDU, July 28: The National Assembly has directed the government to carry out short term and long-term activities at flood and inundation hit areas. A team led by NA chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina had carried out the onsite visit of flood and inundation-hit districts and discussed with bodies concerned and directed the government along with suggestions.
During the NA meeting held on Sunday, Chair Timilsina briefed the meeting about the report of the onsite visit. On the occasion, he asked the government to implement the mentioned suggestions regarding identified flood and inundation hit areas, damages, relief, rescue and rehabilitation and inform the National Assembly after its implementation. The incessant rainfall took place from July 11-15 caused a huge loss of lives and property at different parts of the country. The team asked the government to provide foodstuff to the displaced families and to fill up the potholes along the roads.

Likewise, the team suggested that the government takes diplomatic initiatives to seek an end to the flooding of downstream settlements due to embankments constructed by the Indian government near the no man's land, makes and implements sustainable plans to conserve the Chure area and relocates human settlements vulnerable to disasters to safety. The team conducted a field-inspection in the 10 affected districts and took stock of disaster losses and the situation of rescue and relief efforts.
According to the report, total 57 people were killed in the disaster in the 10 districts, 19 others injured and 16 others have gone missing. Likewise, 15,383 houses were damaged completely, and 32,409 partially in the disaster.
