KATHMANDU, March 18: The Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub has launched advocacy programs to promote climate change resiliency in South Asia.
On February 7, the hub organized an open-floor discussion titled "Climate Change Resiliency for a Great Himalayan Future for All," which brought together experts from various fields to discuss issues related to climate change, infrastructure required for Himalayan climate resiliency, and innovation in and around climate change. Alternative technology that is eco-friendly and sustainable was highlighted as a significant investment for a more resilient future.

To further their efforts, the hub engaged an expert consultant to design an advocacy paper on March 5, where experts from diverse organizations, including Windpower Nepal, WaterAid, Global Water Partnership South Asia, and the Ministry of Forest and Environment, gathered to discuss the same topic. The discussion aimed to forward the discussion on the issue and suggest ways to make the paper more contextual.
Experts discussed issues and concerns in South Asia, from livelihood and agriculture to weather patterns, and suggested segregating the advocacy paper into the efforts and actions to be taken in local, regional, and global regions.
The advocacy paper will be widened with the survey circulated among other hubs in the South Asian region, with support from the Climate Reality South Asia team. It will then be produced and launched at the event Shape South Asia 2023 on May 19-21 in Kathmandu, organized by the Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub.
According to the organizers, the advocacy paper will be a practical document to serve stakeholders in creating impact-driven projects in South Asia. The paper will provide valuable insights for policymakers, activists, and other stakeholders to address the pressing issue of climate change and foster climate resiliency in South Asia.
