KATHMANDU, July 7: Chinese envoy to Nepal Hou Yanqi held a meeting with a senior leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Jhala Nath Khanal at the latter's residence in Dallu on Tuesday morning.
The 45-minute meeting takes place at a time when the NCP is embroiled with growing intra-party disputes as rival factions are mounting pressure on KP Sharma Oli to step down as both the prime minister and party chairperson. Sources said the envoy expressed concern over disputes that has surfaced within the ruling party and suggested to work toward resolving the differences.
Six-member task force formed to resolve intraparty rift in NCP
The envoy had held a meeting with another NCP leader Madhav Kumar Nepal earlier on Sunday evening.
The meetings of Chinese envoy amid growing intra-party disputes within the NCP have courted controversy in Nepal. A number of political party leaders and others have termed the Chinese envoy’s series of meetings with NCP leaders as interference in Nepal’s internal political affairs.
