KATHMANDU, Jan 25: An additional four million doses of Moderna vaccine are arriving in Nepal from the United States. Of these, 1.6 million doses were delivered on Monday night and the remaining 2.34 million doses are being delivered to Nepal on Tuesday morning, according to the Logistics Management Section under the Department of Health Services(DHS).
According to Surendra Chaurasia, chief of the DHS, the vaccine purchased by the Government of Nepal with the assistance of the World Bank will arrive on Tuesday. As many as 3.6 million doses of Moderna vaccine have already arrived in Nepal. Some of them were brought with the help of donor countries.
Over 1.4 million doses of Moderna vaccine arriving today
Sagar Dahal, chief of the National Immunization Program under the Family Welfare Division, said that they are preparing to start the vaccination campaign for children between 12 to 18 years of age as soon as the vaccine arrives in Nepal. "We are planning a vaccination campaign. We will start the campaign soon," he said.
The vaccine will be used as a second dose for those who have already received the first dose and to those children who are yet to receive the first dose. Necessary syringes for vaccination have been arranged by the Government of Nepal, officials said.
