175 commercial rentals of 13 schools in Kathmandu locked by KMC’s Education Department

KATHMANDU, June 11: The Education Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) locked 175 commercial rentals rented by 13 community schools on Monday.

KATHMANDU, June 11: The Education Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) locked 175 commercial rentals rented by 13 community schools on Monday. Out of these, 7 schools were locked by the department, while 6 schools closed their commercial rentals  voluntarily.


Among the locked commercial rentals, 46 belong to Juddhodaya Secondary School (JP School) in Thamel, where commercial activities, including restaurants, were operating.


Other schools with locked commercial rentals include Ratna Rajya Secondary School, Baneshwar: 11 commercial rentals, Kanya Mandir Secondary School, Nhyokha: 36 commercial rentals, Mangaladevi Secondary School, Guhyeshwari: 12 commercial rentals, Janakalyan Secondary School, Baudha: 14 commercial rentals, Pashupati Mitra Secondary School, Chabahil: 36 commercial rentals, Mahendra Secondary School: 20 commercial rentals.

Schools that closed commercial rentals voluntarily include Shitala Secondary School (Boharatar), Shivapuri Secondary School (Maharajgunj), Nawa Jagriti Secondary School (Bohoratar), Rudramati Primary School (Devinagar), Bidyodaya Basic School (Jhonchhen), and Aadharbhut School (Lagan).


On Sunday, 61 commercial rentals of 4 schools were also locked. These include Padmodaya Secondary School, Ramshah Path: 17 commercial rentals, Shahid Shukra Secondary School, Bagbazar: 22 commercial rentals, Vijay Smarak Secondary School, Dillibazar: 8 commercial rentals, Padmakanya Secondary School, Dillibazar: 14 commercial rentals


The keys to the locked commercial rentals have been handed over to the school principals with the condition that they cannot operate the businesses but can move the belongings of the business owners.


A study by the KMC revealed that 37 schools have rented out buildings or towers on their premises.
